A modern location-based social platform with real-time interaction and AI moderation
Built to solve a real problem, not just for show.
Aroundu Social is a web app inspired by YikYak, allowing users to post and interact with others based on their location. Alongside the feed it adds real-time direct messaging, AI-assisted content moderation, and admin and moderation tooling.
Interaction
User Interaction
Users can post text and multiple images, upvote and downvote posts and comments, and comment on posts. Each post and comment includes a report button for moderation. Profiles show a user's post and comment history, and online status is visible platform-wide.
Messaging
Real-Time Messaging
The DM system allows users to send messages and photos in real time. Messages and media can be reported, and online and offline presence is shown with green and grey dots respectively.
Moderation
Admin and Moderation
Admins can see all posts, reported content, and new registrations. They can delete posts, ban users for customizable durations, and resolve issues manually. An AI content moderator, powered by Azure AI, automatically flags inappropriate content for the moderation team to review.
Security
Authentication and Security
Signup and login are secure, with both email and phone verification. Password reset and account validation ensure user security. Only verified users can participate, which cuts down on spam and malicious activity.
Features
Additional Features
The Super Admin sees detailed logs and graphs tracking the moderation team's performance, including each moderator's working hours; the app also detects when a moderator leaves the screen open without acting. Moderators can block users temporarily or permanently. The feed sorts by New or Hot/Top, users' own posts are automatically upvoted, and there is a real-time notifications tab. The layout adapts fully to desktop and mobile.
My role
As the Full-stack Developer, I built and enhanced the platform using the MERN stack, with Socket.io for real-time messaging, AI content moderation, and a responsive frontend built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS. I also developed the admin panel, authentication system, and all additional user-facing features.
